Background

Anne-Marie Riedinger studied at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg where she graduated with an MA in Medical Illustration in 1982 before pursuing her studies in the United States in the field of Anaplastology at Illinois University, Chicago in 1983 - 1984. On returning to Europe, she worked under the supervision of the renowned American anaplastologist and medical artist Gillian Duncan, who was working in Germany at that time in Homburg, Saar.

Anne-Marie rapidly rose to the fore of the international scene as a co-founder of the AEIMS (Association Européenne des Illustrateurs Médicaux et Scientifiques). In 1985, she founded the Centre d'Épithèses Faciales in Strasbourg.

She introduced silicone epitheses in France (which until then had been made of resin or latex and mounted on frames).

She is holding a facial prosthesis comprising the entire mandibular region and lower lip. The epithesis is held in place behind the ears.

 In 1986, she made the first bone-anchored prostheses in France at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children in Paris (Prof Manach, Dr Hamann).

She collaborated with the top surgeons in France and became a surgical consultant for the placement of bone implants for reconstruction via bone-anchored facial prostheses.

In 1996, she was award First Prize for the best professional medical illustration during the AEIMS Exhibition of European Medical Illustrations in Paris.

Highly dynamic on a national and international level and mastering three languages (French, English and German), she was the first European to be President of the International Anaplastology Association (IAA) from 2009 to 2011 (USA). She is President of the Syndicat des Épithésistes Français (SEF), and sits on national prostheses committees.

Anne-Marie became a member of the Board for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology (2016-2020) and joined the Education Committee in the International Anaplastology Association in 2019.

Her works are published in professional journals, she participates in round tables, teaches and gives papiers in conferences around the world. She had treated patients in Brazil at the Brånemark Foundation near Sao Paulo and Recife in Pernambuco (northeast Brazil).

Through her international outlook, Anne-Marie is constantly perfecting her technique and introducing innovations. She had developed her own research in the field of epitheses in order to apply her innovations to the greatest benefit of her patients.
