Left orbital prosthesis, attached using 3 magnets

“When I was told I was going to lose my left eye, I went through the most difficult moments of my life. It was hard to accept it… Cancer… For me cancer was something that happened to other people, not me. My spirits were at their lowest ebb!

As often happens when I am facing difficult times, I decided to react - immediately. Not let myself fall to pieces. Especially as during the 3 operations I underwent in less than one year at Nancy Brabois Hospital and Strasbourg Hautepierre Hospital, I met a lot of people seriously affected by the disease. More than me. It helped put things in perspective. I also discovered the world of medicine which was completely new to me. There were devoted, competent, humane doctors who were highly professional and all working towards my future recovery.

My cancer returned. This time in the parotid gland. I once again managed to stand up to it including before and after 33 sessions of radiotherapy following a new orbital operation. And then there was a new profession to discover – anaplastology.

Impressive.

All my thanks go to the team at the Centre d’Épithèses Faciales for their remarkable work, their advice about my prosthesis - how to clean it, what you should do and what you shouldn’t do - all of which will help me in my new life.

Today, I am not yet completely healed, but I am determined to win my battle against my cancer. My prosthesis buoys me up even more.”
