Auricular prostheses

Indications:

  • for an ear deformity from birth

In France, this concerns approximately one child in every 20,000 births without the cause being identified. It may affect just one ear or both sides (bilateral prostheses) in 15 to 20% of cases. Only some rare genetic disorders, such as the Treacher Collins syndrome, carry a risk of passing the disorder on to one’s children.

  • following a trauma (accident or burn)

  • following surgery (resection of a tumor or following another disorder)

Reconstruction via a bone-anchored prosthesis is an excellent alternative to reconstructive surgery. Patients opt for prosthetic reconstruction because it is so simple to fit the implants and the result is highly aesthetic as the new ear closely resembles the existing ear. However, the prosthesis is removable and will be renewed approximately every 2 years so as to maintain optimum quality at all times.
