Thierry: nasal epithesis, retention by magnets

“I had an operation for a carcinoma of the nasal septum in July 2008. After the moment of stupor when the tumor was discovered, the discussion quickly shifted to the post-operation process. The care provided by Dr. P. Hémar at Hautepierre University Hospital was very professional and very human. Long before the first scalpel stroke, he organized a meeting to clarify the prosthesis solution of the nasal pyramid. This approach to the post-operative solution before the intervention and the warm contact with A.M. Riedinger helped me a lot to get over the difficult course of mutilation. With the thought of the prosthesis to come, bone implants were quickly forgotten.

Forward for reconstruction. The sight of kneading the gelatinous plastic and mixing the powdered colors left me somewhat confused about the outcome to come. A.M. Riedinger masters the subject. She has already captured the useful details through her photographs, she has made a mold impression, she is now determined to tackle the challenge of shapes and colors in three dimensions. She is a technician-artist. Her goal will be reached only with a good result, without counting the hours necessary to achieve it. Skillfully mixing sculpture and painting, A.M. Riedinger does not work: she creates a work that is unique because it is intimately adapted to its subject. Not only is she covering up the spot where the tumor used to be… she mobilizes her talents and her energy to create, from an inert artefact, a parcel of identity, of life, of this life which must continue…despite health accidents.
